Papa Vs. Pretty
Sydney three-piece Papa Vs Pretty are one of the hottest tickets around at the moment and rightly so. Mixing muscular rock with a thrilling sense of dynamics, it’s hard to believe these lads have only just turned 20, such is the confidence and craft inherent in their music.
Initially, Papa Vs Pretty centred around uber-talented multi-instrumentalist Rawle, who learned to play the drums aged four, the piano at six and the guitar by 12. He spent his teenage years writing albums worth of songs in his bedroom before banding together with bassist Gus Gardiner and drummer Tom Myers in 2007.
After several EPs and coveted festivals spots on Laneway and Parklife, in 2010 they signed with EMI sub-label Peace & Riot, who released their third EP Heavy Harm produced by Paul Dempsey. The band’s debut album United In Isolation, produced by local hero Paul McKercher (Augie March, Sarah Blasko), followed in May 2011 and took Papa Vs Pretty to a whole new level of evolution, as high-rotation hits like ‘One Of The Animals’ and ‘Honey’ attest.
