These English psych-rockers must love the movie Jurassic Park heaps because they’ve named their latest album, Velociraptor. Although apart from the fact that they’re humans and a Velociraptor is an extinct dinosaur, they do share a lot in common – they’re fast, fierce and go for the throat in their own way. Mind you, as far as we know, Kasabian don’t eat people, although you never know what happens backstage, do you? (and incidentally, Kasabian is an Armenian surname, which originates from the Turkish word ‘Kasap’ meaning a butcher).
After forming in 1999 under the name Syracuse, these lad-rock rogues from Leicestershire hit the world stage with their self-titled debut in 2004. Since then, they’ve become one of the biggest English rock bands of the last decade, picking up Brit Awards, Q Awards and NME Awards left, right and centre. Last September, Velociraptor cemented their status, giving the boys their third UK #1 in a row. Now that’s an impressive hat trick.
